The Beenleigh rum distillery is a living piece of Australian history, situated in Southeast QLD on the outskirts of Brisbane, as the oldest registered distillery on the banks of the Logan River. Blueprint were invited by Bickford’s Australia, the owner of the distillery to design a visitor centre and cellar door, celebrating the history of Beenleigh Rum and the Distillery. The venue includes a Cellar door, tasting bar, visitor centre with a museum space, history wall, function area and site administration offices for the working distillery.

Respecting the history of the business and creating a timeline and museum in the front of house area immerses visitors with the distilling process, A direct line of site from the visitor’s centre to the heritage listed distillery is the initiating point for tours to the distillery. The shape of the building itself mimics the round form of the rum barrel, and the brick walls of an adapted vat store provide part of the enclosure of the new facility. The barrelling process again is represented by the timber lined interiors echoing the barrel shape externally.
